Deployment

Once the battlefield has been set up, each side should deploy their troops. The deployment Zone available is anywhere within 12" of the player's board edge, and no closer than 12" to any of the table's sides. Before any units are deployed, any Baggage must be deployed. Units must be deployed within their deployment zone. Units are deployed in ascending order of their movement rate, with ties between units requiring rolling 1d6 and seeing which unit is rated higher, with the winner being deployed first. Note that this means units are not deployed in turns, and gives an advantage to fast-moving troops for greater tactical positioning. Note that Advance Forces are deployed first.

Advance Forces

Before the game begins, make secret note of any advance forces you use and their Movement rate - this force may only contain Flying troops if the army has a flying Character, and may not include Creatures with less than 5 Intelligence. Once assembled, each side calls out the slowest speed amongst their advance force. The slower force is deployed entirely within their deployment zone, and then the faster force is deployed entirely within their deployment zone. Each side that used Advance Forces may then make a pre-battle scouting turn using only their advance force that is played as an ordinary turn without the shooting or combat phase, with the faster player deciding whether to give their opponent the first move or not. The non-advance armies are then deployed as their first rank along their table edge, with the following ranks being placed as the unit moves on their turn. This first move is measured from the table edge rather than the base of the model, as the models are actually placeholders - the army is not yet on the board. The side that took the first move during the scouting turn takes the first turn of the game proper.

Trailing Forces

A trailing force consists of one or more units and any amount of character models, must be led by a character model, and noted which turn they are intended to arrive as well as which table segment they will arrive on. This force may only contain Flying troops if the army has a flying Character, and may only include Creatures whose handler has an Intelligence of at least 5. When that turn number is reached, make a Leadership Test for the character leading them - on a success, they arrive at the start of the turn, and may be used the same as any other models on the board. On a failure, attempt the same the following turn, continuing to do so every turn until successful.

Outflanking Forces

Outflanking Forces are a special form of trailing force that may only be used if the army employed a faster advance force than their enemy. If this is the case, any trailing force may be nominated as an outflanking force. An outflanking force may be nominated to emerge from any table segment and edge. If emerging from the side of the table, they cannot emerge before turn 3. If emerging from the enmy's board edge, they can emerge no sooner than turn 4.
